Climate Detectives: A study from team Greenday

Our study focuses on analyzing Austria’s carbon dioxide and methane emissions, the impacts of climate change on tourism and geofactors, and the long-term changes in parameters of lakes.

We gathered data from various sources, including our school’s weather station, ESA-operated devices, and hydrographical centers across Austria. Using tools like Excel, Python, and SAS, we analyzed the data to uncover trends and insights.

Our findings revealed a decrease in methane emissions from 1995 to 2021, while carbon dioxide levels fluctuated with seasonal temperature changes. We also observed varying air quality across Austrian regions, with Linz showing concerning pollution levels. Additionally, we found notable temperature increases in lakes such as the Wörthersee of about two degrees Celsius, pointing to the effects of climate change.

The reason for our participation in this project was to understand the impact of climate change on Austria and find ways to reduce our environmental footprint.
